Descended from poets and musicians and raised amongst “hippie intellectuals” in California, there was always very little chance that Hannah Cohen would gravitate towards a career in accountancy. Still, she took her time about it, travelling the world as a model and photographer first, and only taking up songwriting when her then-boyfriend left his guitar at her apartment. We’re very glad he did because her debut album is truly a thing of beauty. Produced by The National’s keyboardist, Thomas Bartlett, Child Bride delivers a mix of lush, sun-dappled pop and heartbreakingly intimate folk, and showcases Cohen’s gorgeous, Sharon Van Etten-esque tones perfectly.
