7digital What we said: Beach Music might be Alex Giannascoli’s debut for Domino, but it’s actually the seventh release of his career, during which he has amassed a devoted following. Despite the self-described “job promotion” that comes with joining one of the world’s most respected indies, the Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter has retained his lo-fi credentials by continuing to record entirely in his home. The combination of intricate guitar and fragile vocals will doubtless draw comparisons to Elliott Smith, and while they do share a similarly slacker-ish quality, there’s no shortage of imagination and ambition on display. Further devotion is all but guaranteed, but perhaps this time from a little further afield.
